Career and Life Update!

manicureย Hey guys!

I wanted to give a little update to all of my awesome followers and let you know about some changes coming up for me! Tomorrow (Tuesday, April 7th), I am starting at a new salon! I am thrilled for this new venture and the new dynamics there. I guess I should back up and let you know what happened at my last salon job…

I was working as an employee at the past salon which was different than what I was used to but I enjoyed it. That’s basically where I worked for the salon and they got a percentage of the services done there. It was an ideal set up where they supplied all of my tools, equipment, and products and I performed all the nail services. This was the way things were SUPPOSED TO go… I worked there for under a year and never once received any marketing or advertising to bring in clients. Any advertising that occurred was done by me only. Also, there were two other people at the salon performing nail services too. One was a cosmetologist and one wasn’t legally licensed for that work at all (which infuriates me even more). Now keep in mind that I was still in my first year as a nail technician and didn’t have a client base built up yet. So I relied soley on the clientele that this full service salon already had. So you can see where giving these two ladies any nail appointments would harm my paycheck even more.

I spent many days and weeks sitting at the salon from open to close without a single appointment. I stayed in hopes I would get walk ins or last minute appointments. They were few and far between unfortunately. I scaled my days back to strictly weekends as to save money on driving and parking expenses (this was my only income at the time). After weeks of barely enough appointments to bother with, I decided to find a better situation for myself. I had zero help from my boss and no effort was made to make my situation better. So I came across my current salon by a suggestion from a friend…

In this new salon I am an independent booth renter. This means I’m my own boss, supply my own products, and keep all profits. I simply pay a rental fee to the salon for my space. I much prefer this set up to my last situation. This will allow me to expand and grow my business and the Polished by Amy brand the best I can!

So with all of that said, I start tomorrow on my new journey! I know it will be a slow start and there may be some bumps in the road, but I’m ready! I’m also going to be including daily vlogs of behind the scenes at this salon on my YouTube channel! If you’re interested, I’d love for you to subscribe to my channel so you can catch those videos! :)

Thank you guys so much for your amazing support so many of you have shown me over this first year of blogging. I’m very grateful to be able to share a little of my life and interests with you all. Thanks for stopping by and reading; I hope your day is fabulous!

XX, Amy

Sounds like you’ve had a bit of a bumpy start but I’m thrilled to hear things are looking up for you! Renting a booth/chair is a great way to go! That was something I wanted to do back in my hairdressing days. ๐Ÿ˜Š Maybe you could even start up a facebook page for your services as a way to get clientele coming your way?

Good luck with the new job. The setup sounds so much more in your favor this way. And if I lived in your area I would totally be your client. ;)
