How To Make Your Manicure Last

Hi loves!

I have been asked countless times through the years about my personal tips for making a manicure last longer. I’ve heard from many people with the same issue of their nail polish not lasting as long as they’d like. Even if you don’t have this issue yourself, I know everyone would love to extend the life of their manicure by a few more days. With that being said, I have put together all of my tricks and tips that I use for my clients, as well as for myself. Let’s get into it!

Buff Your Natural Nail

I want to start off with this step that not many people are aware of. When you lightly buff the surface of your nail, you are doing a couple things. First, you are buffing away excess debris and cuticle from the nail plate, and secondly, you are “roughing” up the surface a tad to allow the product something to attach to. You definitely don’t need to buff too much as this could lead to damage, but a small amount will do.

Dehydrate With Alcohol

I swear by this step when performing a manicure on my clients. I like to cleanse the nail with alcohol for a few different reasons. First, cleansing allows you to wipe away any debris from the buffing step before. Next, the alcohol wipes away any excess oil from the nail plate, which could inhibit the polish from sticking to nail. Lastly, alcohol acts as a dehydrator, which dehydrates the nail of moisture allowing the polish to adhere longer.

Apply Thin Layers

This is a tactic that not many people realize can be very helpful. When you apply your nail polish layers too thick, it is much easier for the layers to chip or peel off of your nails. When you apply each layer very thin, you are giving the polish a better chance of staying on your nails!

Use A Base and Topcoat

This step should be obvious, but I had to include it in this post because of it’s importance. Using a base coat allows your polish to adhere to the nail better, which will prolong your manicure. A topcoat does a great job of protecting the polish underneath and making it a bit more difficult for chipping to occur. Think of this as a barrier from the outside world.

Avoid Water In Excess

This is a major factor that causes chipping of nail polish. To avoid this issue, try wearing gloves when you’re cleaning, washing dishes, etc.

That’s it for today’s tips; thank you all so much for stopping by! Have you had any luck with these steps for your own nails? If so, I’d love to hear your experiences. Feel free to leave anymore tips you may have in the comments below. I hope your day is awesome; love and light! :)

Nails Of The Day!

Hey guys!

Today I’m sharing what I’ve been rocking on my nails lately! I’ve extended the length of my natural nails with hard gel, and I’m loving this new length! These are a few of the looks that I’ve went with this week.

The first look is China Glaze’s Angel’s Breath and OPI’s Pop The Cork as an accent nail. I don’t believe Pop The Cork is available anymore *sad face*, but I’ve linked a super similar formula.

This last look is true to my style with the all black glossy finish. The shade is OPI’s Black Onyx with a glossy top coat.

Makeup Of The Day!

What’s up guys?!

First I wanted to say thank you for all the love on my last post. I’m so stoked to share more of my life with you guys! Today I wanted to share my makeup look for the day. My go-to look always involves winged liner and this time I’ve paired it with a dark lip.

Since I chose a more dramatic lip and wing, I kept my shadow minimal and more natural toned. The Naked 2 Palette is perfect for natural shadows that are great quality. I also skipped on any blush and chose full coverage foundation and concealer.

Eyeliner: NYC Liquid Liner

Lippie: Jordana “Smooth Merlot”

Foundation: Maybelline Fit Me “Matte and Poreless”

Concealer: Maybelline Fit Me

Hair Color: Feria “Intense Medium Auburn”

Thank you so much for stopping by! Look out for a Valentine’s Day nail art post coming up next. Love and light! :)

Blog Overhaul | Polished by Amy

Hi loves!

Today I wanted to share some style inspiration that I’m loving. I’ve been doing large amounts of self reflection lately, and I’ve decided its time to give my blog an overhaul. I started to realize I was producing content that was too in line with current “trends” and typical “beauty blogger” content. Don’t get me wrong, Polished by Amy will remain a beauty blog, but I am taking more care to introduce my personal style and interests into every post. I want to ensure I’m producing content that is a reflection of myself, as well as my style, interests, and passions. I will be going back to my roots and adding more lifestyle look books and posts as well!

I’ve also realized that this blog’s following has grown greatly over the past several months! With so many new followers, I felt it is necessary to tell you guys a little about me to get more acquainted. Here’s some facts about me and my blog:

  • I’m a 23 year old licensed nail technician, entrepreneur, blogger, and content marketer
  • I write about beauty, lifestyle, and my loves
  • Hiking, camping, climbing, and yoga are my favorite pastimes
  • I am a vegetarian with hopes of living a complete vegan lifestyle one day
  • I am grateful for every one of you!

I want this to be a place where you can learn, get inspired, and have fun sharing your passions as well.  I hope you guys are as excited as I am for this new journey on my blog! I’ve been gathering lots of online inspiration lately for decorating my new apartment, creating posts, and putting together content for my YouTube Channel. With that being said, today I wanted to share some of that style inspiration with you all.

Thank you all so much for stopping by! I look forward to sharing more of my personal style and every day interests with you all. If you’d like to come along for the journey, make sure you subscribe to this blog and join the family! Love and light! :)

How To Use Instagram to Grow Your Brand

Hi loves!

Today I wanted to share my ideas for using Instagram to grow your brand or business! We all know how huge Instagram has become all across the world and we all love it, right?? I wanted to share my top tips for using your own Instagram feed as your personal online portfolio. Since we are working with a strictly visual social media platform, your photos are the most important!

Editing Your Photos

Making your photos pop on Instagram is a MUST! In a sea of photos, you need to help yours stand out among the rest. Your photos will look most professional with no filter and great lighting. I suggest taking your photos against a plain color background (I like to use white), and only touching up the highlights and saturation!

Cropping and Sizing Your Photos

Instagram favors a perfect square crop for its uploads to look their best. This means you should always keep in mind this ratio when shooting or cropping your photos. Having a cohesive layout is one of the aspects that viewers really enjoy about your feed. This is still an aspect I’m working on myself, so I’m hopefully to have my feed looking pretty cohesive soon!

Consistency is Key

Instagram is a completely visual platform used by millions of people around the world. That being said, your photos have the potential to be seen by a large audience daily. It’s important to have consistency when uploading your images so they don’t get lost in the continuing feed of photos. Posting 2-3 times a day helps to grow your initial following, keep your photos at the top of the feed, and increase your chances of brand awareness!

Thank you guys for reading! I hope you found this helpful and picked up a few new tips to use for your own profile. I hope your day is fabulous; love and light! :)

Happy New Year!

Hi loves!

Can you believe it’s 2016??!! I am so grateful for all of the amazing things that happened for me over this past year and I cannot wait to see what’s waiting this year! I wanted to share a quick list of some personal and professional goals I have. Hopefully sharing them with everyone will make me stick to them, haha!

Establish a consistent upload schedule for my blog..

As I’ve said before, I am sticking to my Monday, Wednesday, and Friday upload schedule but I aim to nail down a time as well. This will make sure I never miss a post and you guys know when to expect new content. I believe 2pm EST will be best for me!

Finish my transition to a completely vegetarian diet..

This has been a personal goal of mine for a while now. I’ve done well in the past, but never made it permanent. I tried going completely vegan without a transition period and it made it too difficult. My personal goal now is to continue my better food choices and stick to a healthy, vegetarian diet from now on. This goal makes me super happy! :)

Have “me” time more frequently..

This is something that I didn’t realize I even needed. As I’ve had some time to reflect, I’ve noticed how much of my effort and energy that I put into work and everyone around me. I’m constantly putting others feelings, wants, and schedules ahead of my own. Is anyone else this way? This is a quality I love in myself, but I’ve come to realize that if you don’t take care of yourself as well, you could end up unhappy. My goal is to make sure I take time out to work on my dreams and career so I can continue to go in a positive direction!

Thank you all so much for stopping by! I’d love to hear some of your goals for 2016 if you’d like to share. I hope you have an awesome day; love and light! :)
